Organic Farming
12-07-2019
Narayana’s agriculture and horticulture have been driven organically for almost 50 years. The soil has always been given manure from the stable and is in a good condition with a high content of beneficial microorganisms and other good things, which cannot be found in fields with conventional farming. The crops are healthy and of high quality. Nevertheless, we always have to make every effort to avoid attacks from diseases, pests and weeds. This year one of Narayana`s wheat fields had not been sufficiently cultivated, so it was severely attacked by weeds, especially chamomile flower. Therefore, we had to send a team out into the field and remove the harmful plants by hand. Here are a few snapshots from the unusual situation.
As you can see, the scentless chamomile is about to take over completely and the grain can hardly grow and spread as it should.
It is important to get everything pulled out by the roots, before the weeds succeed in producing seeds.
Both hayfork, hand power and scythe are used.
The wheelbarrows are quickly filled.
During the break, it is made sure that everybody gets something fluid.
