What is color management?

Computer screens, scanners, printers, proofing systems and printing presses reproduce colors in different ways. Color management adjusts for these differences, so that the colors appear uniformly and can be controlled through all phases of the production.

Color management requires regular calibration of all units, characterization of the color reproduction by all units and careful control of all processes in the daily production.

What are ICC-profiles?

ICC (International Color Consortium) profiles are data files that describe the color presentation on a screen, a scanner, a printing press or a printer. The ICC profiles compensate for the differences in color presentation.

An ICC profile is only valid under certain conditions. e.g. one ICC profile can be used for printing in CMYK on double coated paper, while another is being used for uncoated paper, etc.

Color Management at Narayana Press

Narayana Press has implemented color management at all steps, from prepress to printing.

Narayana’s color management is based on a linear color management from final files to printing. The advantage of the linear color management is that the color definition of the CMYK files is kept in the printing process, so that a point of 50% cyan in a DTP document is printed as 50%, also.

Customers making the prepress themselves can use Narayana’s ICC profiles for printing on different types of paper. The profiles can be used for converting illustrations to CMYK, and can be combined with your own screen or printing profiles to simulate the colors of the final printing.
