A persistent motherless calf

It is always exciting when one of the Jersey cows or heifers is about to calve. But when two of the heifers are due to calve at the same time, it is almost a little too exciting, as we only have one calving box in the barn. Fortunately, they did not calve at the same time, but two days apart. The first heifer had a heifer calf and did not want to be milked by machine. It is sometimes a problem that heifers only let their calves drink milk after they have calved. They then hold back their milk when the milking machine is attached. This heifer would not be milked, so unfortunately there was only one thing to do: separate the calf from its mother earlier than planned. Fortunately, she now has so much milk that it is comfortable to be milked, and it is no problem to milk her with a machine, as she has forgotten about the calf. In such a situation, the calf would normally be fed milk from a feeding bottle/bucket. But then the other heifer calved and had a bull calf, and since the heifer calf missed its mother, we tried to put it in the calving box with the cow and the bull calf. At first, the cow did not want the motherless calf to suckle and tried to kick it away. But the heifer calf was very stubborn and quick, so it just jumped away and came back again every time, and eventually it got the milk it wanted. By the evening, the cow had accepted the heifer calf and now licks it as if it were its own, and the calves stand side by side and suckle on the cow.
